How counselling can help you

Self-awareness

Developing self-awareness is an important process within therapy and allows you to be able to take a bird’s eye view of your world and become an observer.  You will begin to make sense of things, thus bringing a sense of understanding and clarity.  This puts you in a starting position to consider change.

Make sense of the past

And learn how these experiences have influenced who you are in the present.  There can be great value gained in understanding the past and how your own life journey has been influenced by it.  Your old wounds and painful experiences can be worked through and healed.

Become braver and less anxious

The world has possibly become an antagonising and fearful place.  This world view could be based upon valid experiences and good reasons.  Counselling could help to support you in healing from these troubling experiences, so they have less impact upon you.  You can begin to create your own passage through the world, tapping into your fulfilment and happiness.

Understand why you do things that don’t make sense

You could possibly be drinking too much or maybe overeating.  Perhaps you are confused or ashamed by your behaviour and wonder why you can’t just ‘stop’.  Counselling will provide a safe and compassionate space to explore your ambivalence and fears about change.

Understanding relationships

Counselling could help you to appreciate the relationships that are of importance to you and warrant further investment.  It may also help to take the decision to distance yourself from relationships that are toxic or that are hindering your wellbeing.  The therapeutic relationship in counselling acts as a practice space for relationships in the real world.

Loving yourself and others

An inner contentment can be found when you feel that you can be the real ‘you’.  As you begin to allow in acceptance from your therapist for your imperfect and flawed self, this experience can be incredibly healing, powerful and joyful.

Testimonials

Dave was really good and helped me through my time of struggle, with a friendly approach to the sessions it made me feel comfortable and made it easier to share which allowed an easier more comfortable way of therapy. Best therapist could have asked for.

Male ClientAged 20’s

The first national coronavirus lockdown to a huge toll on my mental health.  I had slipped back into negative thinking patterns and behaviours and was developing a serious issue with drinking and drugs.  With Dave’s guidance, I am now clean and sober and have tools to stay that way and withstand the personal and professional challenges lockdown #2 will inevitably present.  I would like to take this chance to thank Dave for his invaluable support and wish him all the best for the future.

Male ClientAged 30’s

Comforting and safe to talk to. Helpful advice, including book recommendations and advice. Flexible sessions and arrangements. Overall, would recommend.

Male ClientAged 30’s

Dave was very personable to begin with and it helped as we went along this counselling journey, we had a lot of similar interests which helped forged a good relationship. I felt Dave asked the right questions to get me to think and reflect alongside recommending some very helpful tools that will assist me moving forward on my journey of self-improvement. The best thing about Dave was, I did not feel judged at all or that he came across in a judgmental way. Thanks Dave, for the support and for listening, I’ve taken a lot away and I feel more confident that I have the tools at my disposal to deal with situations better.

Female ClientAged 40’s

Dave Petch has been an excellent support and guide over the past weeks.  He was able to get me to see and approach my anxiety in new ways.  The meetings were always with purpose, and I felt I left each meeting with positive actions.
